Thanks for this video! My right front break shield gave up on me so that needs replacing... a 15 euro job turned expensive quick as I might aswell replace rotors and break pads while I'm at it...
@@pauljinks8480 I was also surprised, but it seems that the spec says 190-200Nm for front caliper bolts. I found some people torque it to 120 as they also feel like 190 is too much. Still, the spec says 190-200Nm
The adapter that he's using on the front caliper piston doesn't have the pins to wind back the piston as is required on the rear calipers. It simply pushes the piston in until it bottoms in the caliper bore.
@@16scsmarkthat’s what the tool is for the rear anyway. It’s blank and you fit adapter plates, but using it for the front is totally unnecessary. A big screwdriver, small prybar or a set of big grips does the job much more efficiently
@@autodocukwhat about the Mk7's that have adaptive cruise control and automatic breaking? Do you need to disengage it for them when doing the front breaks?

Golf 7 was manufactured between 2012-2017. Maybe do a little bit more research before. Also this style carrier is not for all cars. Mine, bought from East Europe, had different carrier for brake pads, that allows to change pads without removing it. Just take brake caliper off with pads and remove the torx screw. This brake carier is typical for US market.
Great vid, really easy to follow and giving the torque settings was especially welcome. Thank you!!

Great how to video straight to the point torque values and tools size information
Thanks for the torque values
Excellent
Leaving the brake reservoir open when changing the disk and pads would you still need to bleed the brakes?
Yes, it is recommended to bleed and if it is necessary to replace the brake fluid.
This is my next job. This is my source for parts.

Great video
190nm? :o sick
Please clarify or rephrase your question and we will be able to assist you.
@@autodocuk 190Nm which seems incorrect
@@jerzyt9942 I found it odd too, 190 NM is apperantly standard for 300+ diameter rotors on VW..
Is 190Nm definitely correct? On M14 bolt? Seems excessive somehow.

You don’t need that kind of wind back tool for the front brakes! That type is for park brake callipers.

Good 👍👍👍
Wish it was that easy on my car...
How much is that disc?
Hi! We recommend that you contact our customer support and provide VIN for an accurate answer.
What brand is this disc in this video. Just wanting to know of this brand not others thanks
@@game4alaughmanit's ridex brake disc. The box that disc was in was shown in the video
And the electronic handbrake? you need to disengage that with OBD eleven or VCDS.
When working on the front axle, it is not necessary to set the parking brake to service mode.

190nm for bracket, but for tyres only 120nm. Thats weird !
Not at all. The brake caliper bracket has bigger bolts and only 2 of them.
I would have to spend £300 on tools to do this work and then I could get it wrong so I will pay a pro at main dealer to do it I think.
